The conventional concept of a formal suit adheres to only to a suit jacket, a trouser and a shirt underneath. However, with the rise in fashion sense in the recent times, the introduction of buttons, cufflinks and waistcoats have added on to a man's attire.
The grace and personality a man beholds, is spoken aloud by the type of suit he wears. Mark Twain truly said, “Clothes make the man”. Of course, the style quotient matters a lot in this fashion conscious world. The proper dressing sense of a man stays limited because of the minimum clothing options for men. How much can you experiment with a trouser and a shirt and a jacket? The introduction of a two piece-suit with jacket or a blazer, and a three-piece suit, including a waistcoat, has opened new options for men. Even from the basic colors of black, blue and navy, the suits are now available in gray, white and brown too. The alteration of the sleeves and collars have added on to the style quotient of a man. Nevertheless, the basic black formal suit or a “tuxedo”, is still famous for the occasions of dinners, formal meetings and weddings, as well as funerals.
However, there is one point to be noted. The concept of black suit must not be always confused with the term “tuxedo”. Tuxedo was the city, from where the rise in fashion of wearing a jacket (a dinner jacket or suit jacket) with a trouser and shirt came into being. The type is not a tuxedo, but the style is called as the “tux-style”. Therefore, the basic black suit has nothing to do with a tuxedo in particular. The innovations of colors the, bought the concept of informal suits to the basic black dinner suits. Navy and gray were the initial alterations, with slight stripes in the fabric and later, it also included checks and self-prints. Nowadays, mens wedding suits are found in white and other shades of whites, and casual suits are of blue or pastel colors. The three piece suits that include a waistcoat (cummerbund) have also experienced newness by fashion conscious men, who sometimes wear the waistcoat separately without a suit jacket. Also, the conventional idea of sartorial stripes on the trousers have seen a deviation towards the plain and self-printed trouser fabrics. Unlike the usual formal suits which did not have belt loops, the modern day has seen men wearing chunky belts and accessorize them further with cufflinks, flashy buttons and suit pins.
The evolution of fashion and style have although seen a variation of the concepts, but the basic idea of a black suit still remains a man's favorite outfit.
